Unveiling the Requirements of Humanoid Robots for Motor Performance.
The degree of freedom of a robot determines the number of motors, and the higher the flexibility of the robot, the more motors it has. Currently, there are relatively few players of humanoid robots worldwide. Companies that have already launched prototypes/products include Honda in Japan, Boston Dynamics in the United States, Agile Robotics in the United States, Uber in China, Xiaomi in China, and Tesla in the United States.
There are three key requirements for motors in humanoid robots: high efficiency, high dynamics, and high power density.
1. High efficiency: Low energy consumption and low friction loss are important because robots are usually powered by batteries, can withstand harsh operating conditions, can perform very frequent forward and reverse and acceleration/deceleration operations, and can withstand overload in a short period of time.
2. High dynamic: The inertia of the entire drive (motor, mechanism, wiring, sensors, and controller) should be as low as possible, and the time for the motor to obtain the command signal and complete the required working state of the command should be short.
3. High power density: Robot applications require high-speed, high torque motors, and humanoid robot motors also need to be small, compact, and lightweight。
