Is selecting a brushless motor really that difficult.
We believe that on the path of selecting brushless motors, you will always encounter obstacles—whether in motor models, performance parameters, functional requirements, or price comparisons. Each step that fails to meet your needs requires re-screening manufacturers and starting over. For engineers and procurement professionals, this is an endless cycle that must be endured in the search for motors.
In the field of micro motors, brushless motors are primarily categorized into internal rotor brushless motors, external rotor brushless motors, and coreless brushless motors. Brushless motors typically operate at voltages below 36V, with diameters under 70mm, and can achieve speeds ranging from several thousand to tens of thousands of revolutions per minute, depending on the specific product requirements.
In terms of price, brushless motors exhibit significant price fluctuations, ranging from 15 to 300 yuan per unit in bulk. This base price depends on the motor's performance, such as high torque or high-speed capabilities. In cases where conventional magnets and bearings fail to meet requirements, higher-performance sintered magnets and imported ball bearings are required instead. Additionally, standard brushless motors only have three wires: positive and negative terminals plus PWM speed control. If customers demand additional features, a drive board must be added. The performance and requirements of each drive board vary, leading to incremental cost increases.
There are also secondary factors, such as the requirement for temperature control and the need for external corrosion and rust prevention of the motor, which will to some extent increase the manufacturing costs of the motor, thereby naturally driving up the motor's cost.
Of course, the final price ultimately depends on the wholesale quantity. For example, for the same model of brushless motor, the price range can decrease by several tenths to several yuan per unit, or even up to over ten yuan per unit, depending on whether it's a batch of 3K or 50K.
Brushless motors are highly customizable, with each component capable of being tailored to specific requirements. However, the more customizations are made, the higher the cost. Therefore, it is preferable to prioritize using models that already have pre-made molds from the manufacturer, as this can significantly reduce costs and production time.
