How to choose between brushless motor and brushed motor.
Choosing a suitable DC motor often requires consideration of multiple factors such as required voltage, speed, torque, shaft output method, lifespan, and size. Therefore, whether to choose a brushless motor or a brushed motor depends more on our actual needs.
For example, I need a voltage of 12V, a load speed of 8000-10000rpm, a load torque of 100gf.cm, a diameter length of about 30-36mm, and can operate for a long time with multi wire drive adjustment.
In this requirement, the characteristics of a brushed motor may seem to match, but it requires a long time and drive adjustment, so only a brushless motor can meet its characteristics.
For example, my demand is large, the unit price cannot exceed 10 pieces, the diameter is below 12mm, the voltage is 6V, the speed is 20000rpm, and the lifespan can reach 500 hours. At the same time, I need to have a Hall drive.
In this requirement, although brushless motors can be equipped with Hall drives and have overall performance, they do not have a price advantage. No matter how large the demand is, brushless motors cannot achieve a price below 10 yuan, while brushed motors meet the performance requirements. Normally, they do not have Hall drives. In terms of price space, a single motor only requires 2-3 yuan, so customization is adopted by adding an external Hall board to meet actual needs.
For example, my requirement is 24V, with a speed of 125rpm and a load torque of 5kg.cm. The size is within 24-28mm, and it can be used for forward and reverse rotation. I need 9 slots and 4 poles, with a drive board and a Hall angle distribution of 40 degrees, ensuring overall compatibility.
In this requirement, the speed and torque of both brushed and
brushless motors cannot meet the requirements, so it is necessary to consider adding a gearbox for matching. However, choosing between brushed and brushless motors as the power source, we can see that 9-slot four stage drive board can meet both requirements. However, brushed motors can only be used for external drive, while brushless motors can use built-in drive, which is more in line with tight fit. Combined with the gearbox, it can meet the actual needs of the whole.
