Have you encountered these problems in the use of brushless DC motors?

Customers often consult us about some problems encountered in the use of DC brushless motors. Today, Topband Motor will summarize and answer these questions for everyone to see what problems they have encountered.

1. DC brushless motor shaft generates current
What is shaft current? The current in the shaft, bearing seat, and base circuit of a DC brushless motor is the shaft current, which is mainly caused by the asymmetric magnetic field, harmonic supply current, uneven air gap, gaps in the iron core, and unequal number of iron core laminations in the DC brushless motor. The shaft current of the DC brushless motor will corrode the bearings or balls, resulting in increased friction loss and heat generation, causing the bearings of the DC brushless motor to burn out.

2. Ordinary brushless DC motors are not suitable for use in high-altitude areas
Ordinary DC brushless motors are generally not suitable for use in high-altitude areas because the altitude has an impact on the temperature rise, corona discharge, and commutation of the DC brushless motor. The higher the altitude, the greater the temperature rise of the DC brushless motor, and the lower the output power. When compensating for the impact on the temperature rise of the DC brushless motor based on the higher altitude and lower temperature, the rated output power of the DC brushless motor remains unchanged.

3. DC brushless motor cannot operate under light load
When operating under light load, brushless DC motors can result in low efficiency, low power factor, and waste of electricity. So it is best not to operate brushless DC motors under light load.

4. The temperature rise of the brushless DC motor is too high
There are many reasons for the high temperature rise of DC brushless motors, including excessive load, high voltage, phase loss, long low-speed operation time, blocked ventilation openings, etc. High temperature rise can reduce the service life of DC brushless motors or directly burn them out.

5. Do not start brushless DC motors randomly in extremely cold environments
Due to the possibility of insulation cracking and grease freezing in extremely cold and low-temperature environments, it is necessary to inspect the brushless DC motor before operating it in such conditions.

6. DC brushless motor abnormal noise and vibration
The common causes of abnormal noise and vibration in DC brushless motors are bearing wear or poor lubrication, loose fixing screws, foreign objects inside the DC brushless motor, overload operation of the DC brushless motor, three-phase imbalance, phase loss, short circuit between the stator and rotor, etc.
