How to choose between AGV DC brushless and DC brushless servo motors?


AGV uses DC brushless motors, mainly for cargo handling between two points, with relatively simple functions. With the advancement of technology, the development of the AGV industry, and the increasing demand from customers, the functionality and customization requirements for AGV cars are becoming higher and higher. AGV motors are also constantly being updated and replaced, from DC brushless motors to DC brushless servo motors, each change is based on the continuous improvement of grassroots technology.

In the AGV robot industry, especially in logistics and warehousing AGV vehicles, DC brushless and servo motors have already occupied the majority of the market. DC brushless motors and DC brushless servo motors have been adopted by most AGV companies due to their maintenance free, high efficiency, low operating temperature, minimal electromagnetic radiation, and long lifespan.

DC motor refers to the use of DC power supply, and its difficulty lies in starting the motor (due to the constant magnetic field generated by DC electricity), which requires electric brushes or circuits that replace electric brushes. The DC brushless motor is mainly controlled by Hall feedback, focusing on speed control. For AGV cars with low precision and functional requirements, the control is relatively simple. A typical brushless motor is based on six sets of codes generated by three Hall sensors, such as 001101, to determine the rotor rotation position and then control the current commutation of the winding. It is mainly used as a power output and does not require precise control of the rotation angle. In this case, Hall components are sufficient, such as the motors used in ordinary handling carts between two points, which were the earliest AGV carts. Due to the absence of brushes and related interfaces, brushless motors are cleaner, produce less noise, require no maintenance, and have a longer lifespan. Due to the advantages of simple control system, convenient speed regulation, and no need for inverter devices, as well as the fact that AGV does not need to operate at high speed and high power, most enterprises still use DC motors as the power source for their drive systems.

DC servo motors, also known as actuator motors, are used as actuators in automatic control systems to convert received electrical signals into angular displacement or angular velocity outputs on the motor shaft. It is divided into two categories: DC and AC servo motors. Its main feature is that when the signal voltage is zero, there is no self rotation phenomenon, and the speed decreases uniformly with the increase of torque. For servo motors, precise control of the rotation angle is necessary. At this time, encoders of different resolutions should be selected as position feedback signals according to the needs. The most common is the 2500 line incremental encoder, which can emit 10000 pulse signals after one rotation of the motor, thus achieving very precise control accuracy. On the other hand, the price of the encoder is not on the same order of magnitude as the Hall sensor, and there is certainly a cost performance issue involved. The DC brushless servo motor (equipped with an encoder), on the other hand, can achieve precise control of speed and position through encoder feedback control, making it suitable for applications such as AGVs and chassis moving devices that require accurate positioning and additional functions. The use of QDTG62-24 DC servo motor can achieve better control of AGV accuracy. Although the products of Zhidong Intelligent have not been introduced to the AGV industry in China for a long time, the vast number of AGV and chassis walking equipment customers still highly recognize them. Many customers have cooperated with Shanghai Zhidong to apply the QDTG62-24 DC servo motor series products to his AGV products.
